Obedience to God can be an intense experience. I had this painting at a sharper, brighter, lighter, prettier place, when God’s still small voice rather insistently told me to literally “hose it.” This directive was surprising to say the least, but after trying the spirits, I was reluctantly obedient. The resulting painting is much more visceral, showing through to various layers. I then had to resist the temptation to lighten the aperture of the photo, to make it less brooding! I think the point is that obedience is often out of our comfort zone.
