This foot washing painting is about the fact that while Jesus knew he was to be killed the next day, this is how he spent the evening before: loving, caring, and being an example of service. I tried to capture his grace even in the face of what was soon to come, the intimacy of his loosened garments, the strength of his humility, and the sweetness of his invulnerable, tender purity.
